April is IBS, Gut, Stress, and Detox Awareness Month
IBS Isn’t a Diagnosis, It’s a Description
I see many patients who come in and tell me, My doctor said I have IBS. And my first question is always, Okay, but why?
IBS, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, is not a true diagnosis. It is a term used when someone has symptoms like bloating, constipation, diarrhea, gas, or abdominal pain, but the root cause has not been identified yet. It simply means the gut is not functioning properly.
In my practice, IBS is usually connected to a few major issues. The most common things I see are gut bacteria imbalance, chronic stress and nervous system dysfunction, slow gut motility, poor bile flow, food sensitivities, and inflammation in the gut. The digestive system is closely connected to the nervous system, hormones, liver detox pathways, and metabolism. This is why many people with IBS also deal with fatigue, hormone imbalance, skin issues, anxiety, and weight gain.
IBS should not be ignored or brushed off as just stress. It is a sign that something in the gut, nervous system, and hormones is not working the way it should.
What many people do not realize is that digestion is not just chemical. It is also neurological and physical. The intestines depend on proper nerve signaling, circulation, and lymphatic flow to move properly. If the body is constantly in stress mode, or if there is tension and restriction in the abdomen, the gut will not move properly. This is why, in addition to nutrition and supplements, I often incorporate abdominal therapy, lymphatic therapy, and nervous system support to help restore proper gut motility.
The goal is not to just manage IBS. The goal is to figure out why the gut is not functioning properly in the first place and correct that.
If you are dealing with chronic bloating, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or you have been told you just have IBS, it may be time for a more comprehensive root cause approach.
These don’t always show up on routine blood work and other conventional lab work.
Yet they directly affect metabolism.
An inflamed body does not burn fat efficiently. It cannot detox. It cannot heal. It protects. It stores more. It slows down metabolism.
True Nutrition Means Reducing Inflammation (so you can actually absorb your healthy food and vitamins and have your body use them to heal and repair).
National Nutrition Month shouldn’t just be about eating less.
It should be about:
– Restoring gut integrity – Supporting the liver and gallbladder to break down food properly and detox pathways -Improving lymphatic flow – Calming systemic inflammation
When inflammation decreases, metabolism improves. This is your foundation to health. We provide Functional teststo look deeper into your gut and other stressed organs, such as our gut zoomer test, environmental toxins (heavy metals, molds, etc.), and more. We also provide a foundation wellness BioScanto identify which organs are stressed.
Chronic stress keeps your nervous system stuck in fight-or-flight mode. When the vagus nerve is underactive, the body holds tension, inflammation rises, digestion slows, and pain intensifies.
These Signature Massage Packages are designed to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, stimulate vagal tone, improve circulation, and calm systemic stress, helping your body shift into true rest, repair, and healing mode.
Because relaxation isn’t a luxury, it’s neurological medicine.

The Gut-Liver Connection Most People Don’t Realize
Your liver and digestive system are closely linked through what’s known as the gut-liver axis. Everything absorbed through the intestines travels directly to the liver through the portal vein. When the gut lining becomes irritated, whether from dysbiosis, chronic stress, food sensitivities, or toxin exposure, inflammatory compounds and endotoxins can place an extra burden on liver function.
Over time, this may contribute to:
Increased liver inflammation Sluggish detoxification pathways Fat accumulation in liver cells Insulin resistance and metabolic stress
This is why many individuals with reflux, bloating, constipation, microbial imbalance, or chronic inflammation also show fatty liver patterns on labs or imaging.
As a naturopathic physician, the more cases I evaluate, the more I see that gut dysfunction often shows up before liver dysfunction becomes obvious.
Integrative bodywork therapies may help restore balance from chronic body stress by improving circulation, lymphatic movement, and nervous system regulation.
Abdominal & Visceral Bodywork Gentle techniques around the abdomen may support organ mobility, circulation, and digestive function while reducing stagnation.
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy Encourages fluid movement and may help reduce inflammatory load, supporting the body’s natural detox pathways.
Vagus Nerve Focused Relaxation Massage Helping the body shift into rest and digest mode can improve gut motility, reduce tension, and support overall metabolic health.
Cupping Therapy When Appropriate May assist with fascial release and improved circulation, supporting tissue oxygenation and detox pathways.
Integrative Naturopathic Bodywork Combining Traditional Chinese Medicine principles with therapeutic massage may help regulate digestive energy flow and calm systemic stress responses.
These therapies are not just about relaxation. They can be supportive tools that work alongside nutritional and lifestyle approaches to calm gut inflammation.
